My Father in law owns a horse ranch which includes about 180 Paso Fino horses. They often run wild on the hills you see behind them in this picture, but are brought down onto the ranch routinely for training and such.
Each year the Free Family holds an open house where people come to learn about them, watch them be broke, ride them, and buy them. The cool thing about the Paso-Fino horses is their gate (the way they walk) - a trait they are born with that makes for a very smooth ride.
This is one of the foals playing in the arena. They have quite a few new ones this year for the neighbor kids to work with. The training for the foals is basically lifting their feet one at a time, and letting them grow accustomed to the interaction.
While we are up at the ranch Jake and I use the wide open spaces to practice some shooting. This gun is one of his latest additons - A 17 HMR. The ammo is about the size of a twenty two, but it burns faster and the bullet travels at least twice as fast.
Just one of the many moments we come to expect and to love on the Free Farm. All the baby foals were taking a nap in the mud while I was chillin on the fence. The sun was out for them to enjoy.
The kids are on the four wheelers again! Sometimes to help with chores, but mostly... because they can. This is Bayden and Koy (cousins) getting ready to go out to their "Fort." Their Dad built a fire for them so they could have some hot-dogs for dinner.
Aww, the good ol' days.
We had fun being there on Father's Day and teasing the old man. This was a short visit, but we go to help out whenever we can. There is lots of hay to haul in the summers, and Jake THRIVES on doing it. After the work is done, there is bridge jumping, rappelling, and all manner of Farm-Kid fun.
