(Lincoln City, Oregon / September 2nd-6th)
Invite some friends, and make for the coast
Looking forward to the beach the most!
We drive all night to make our escape
Sure glad we had that book on tape.
First things first after hours in the car
Breakfast at Pig n' Pancake - full we are
Now we run until our toes touch the sand
The sun comes up and the view is grand!
Time to check in at the Ester Lee
Lovin the big window and the vastness we can see
At first the old decor gives us a bit of alarm
But then we welcome it's antique charm
A shower and a nap was just the thing
Felt like a million bucks - cha ching!
Now back on the road for adventure sake
It's a birthday surprise I planned for Jake!
We're going to a concert, outside Salem City
I gave him "Lifehouse" tickets and now I am giddy!
Directions were rough, got lost on the way
But made it in time to hear the first chords play
Impressed by the show they put on live
Thinking it was definitely worth the drive
Jammin out, not acting our age
Diggin the lights and smoke on stage
No lighters swaying, only cell phones glow
We could see it all from the 15th row
Lot's of noise, some crazy girl raves
Awesome new tunes and a few old faves
A late night well spent and tuckered out
An early morning followed - back on route
Set out to find a lighthouse or two
By the request of our friend, Arianna, that's who
It's none too far to our destination
Through the mist we see illumination
The first, the tallest, and gleaming white
On the rocky cliffs - an inspiring site
As we exit the car it's grandeur holds our eyes
But then we are attacked by swarms of flies!
You wouldn't believe the number present
Made the stop a lot less pleasant
Joined a tour and met the lighthouse keeper
Tried not to make fun (he was kind of a creeper)
Took the stairs to the uppermost level
At many moments we did revel
Then down to the water to further explore
I loved the rocks that covered the shore
And in our wanderings we did succeed
We discovered some worthwhile things indeed!
A whale up close, and a curious brown seal
A set of starfish - thinking this is unreal!
The second lighthouse still awaits
It has some very unexpected traits
Untypically short, and more like a dwelling
We found it's history to be compelling
Steadfast, serene, immovable, the same,
Burns on forever that quenchless flame,
Year after year, through all the dark night
Shines on that inextinguishable light!
And so our lighthouse adventures end
beautiful scenery around every bend
We stop for a lunch of fish and chowder
To keep our tummies from grumbling louder
We pass an arch bridge in all it's majesty
I took lots of pictures - an instant adoree
Not much else to fill our day
Just chillin' and we like it that way
The boys took off when it got late
to play in the waves - a very cold fate
We slept in, had breakfast in bed
I was the biggest lazy head
Finally emerged to go out shopping
Passed no store without stopping
With some persuasion from our friend Ben
and hit with a daring streak just then
We rented wet suits that we could afford
Tried our skills with a surf and boogie board!
We also made a sand castle of sorts
Complete with barriers, and surrounding forts
Rock walls to make it bigger and stronger
But then we couldn't stand the cold any longer
Our last day was filled with more of the ocean
Salty crisp air and tide pools in motion
With our hands we were catching critters
Those crazy hermit crabs like to skitter
Jake even caught some little fishes
too fast for me with their tail swishes
And have I forgotten to mention the kites!?
So much wind, they reached great heights!
Here in Lincoln City they are all the hype
Popular in every color, shape, and type
The trick kites are what thrilled us most
for hours they kept us fully engrossed
And when they turned to the side just right
It could knock a person over mid-flight!
A new activity was suggested by the boys
Burrying us in the sand - oh the joys.
After that we formulated a plan
to make Ursula the seawitch and Superman!
Daylight fades to tell us we're done
But we don't let it ruin our fun
There's one more thing still on our list
Let the frisbee fly with the flick of a wrist
The seagulls turn quiet and most people had cleared
We remained on the beach until the sun disappeared
Our memories of the ocean will linger on,
long after our footprints in the sand are gone.
