Another Craft-Fair experience this last weekend and I am beginning to wonder... WHY do I sign up for these things? I have only actually been a vendor at two events, so I guess I cannot pass judgment quite yet. But let met tell you - I have had such bad luck! This particular Craft-Fair was at Rigby High School. Over 100 vendors were set up in the halls and in the gym, and it was quite the occasion! I was very excited that I signed up in time to be part of it. It was very well advertised, and just as promised, there were a LOT of people who came through. So, you are wondering, what's the problem? Well, let me show you a picture of where my booth was:
Yes, I was assigned a table behind the front doors. At first I was thinking it would be great to be the first table that everyone saw, and the last table on their way out - BUT in reality I was just the table that got SNOWED ON all day so no one wanted to stop to look. I was told that set-up would be in the gym so I was in no way prepared for the bitter cold wind that was blowing on my face the entire time. I had a small jacket, but I am talking some SERIOUS COLD people! As I tried to talk to the people coming in you could see my breath, and they just hurried along inside to where it was warmer. There were three other people in that little room with me, and none of us sold much of anything (compared to those inside at least). Later in the day when we all had developed an uncontrollable shiver and our lips were turning blue, a lady from inside came out with a stack of blankets for us. THANK HEAVENS! I wanted to hug her, but I was frozen to my seat. I talked to the person in charge of the event and told her I wanted a partial refund for my booth. You know what she said???? She said "We are not responsible for your lack of earnings and we are certainly offended by your attempt to discredit our event. All of us have worked very hard to manage so many booths and we would hope that you would show more gratitude for being able to take part...." blah blah blah. Really? You want me to thank you? There was an open hall that they had not used at all, because they wanted the booths to be set up in a circle - so we had to take the freezing fourier instead of the warm hall so that the traffic had a pattern. Sure! Makes perfect sense! (if you are not the one with icicle boogers!) :) Well, I survived and I was grateful when it was all over. While driving, I turned the heat all the way up in my car and was still frozen when I got home! It was the craziest thing - my body was on Auto-shiver and I couldn't stop shaking. Kind of scary for a second, but then I took a hot bath for a half hour! Awwww, much better. It really was insane, but you know what they say - "If it doesn't kill you..."
The main reason I participate is to see all the cool stuff that other vendors have and just get rid of all the socks I have made. I don't make profit on them usually, especially if you factor in the time it takes to make them. It's just a hobby, but I can't have hundreds of socks sitting around my house for no reason - so I have to 'sell' them so I have an excuse to make more. hahaha. Ridiculous, I know. I am signed up for another one (not quite as big) in Pocatello on December 5th. (It is at Hawthorne Middle School for those of you who would like to come.) I am convinced that it will be a better experience and I am looking forward to it. Let's hope I don't come home afterward and think " WHY do I sign up for these things?!"

Where is it is Pocatello? I would love to come and look at them! Either email me or leave a comment on one of my blogs. Thanks!!
Hey
So I am going to try to go make it to that craft fair.
If you want to see a Cents of Style party, here is a link that you can see where and when they are booked: http://www.mycentsofstyle.com/page.wml/p/Calendar
Then you can just email the stylist (click on the city and it shows more info on the calendar and the stylist's email address) to get the address. Or if on the 5th, you have extra time, I can see if Alisha will be home and we can just go up to her home and look at the stuff then. It really is just fun stuff for great prices. The shoes that I got were only $10.
