This past weekend, during the Halloween hype, my husband and I decided to pick out a few "suspenseful" movies in case we had time to watch one in between all the festivities. Neither of us have any interest it straight horror movies and have rarely even watched remotely scary movies. So we went to Clean Flicks and narrowed it down to three that we thought would just keep us on the edge of our seats a bit. It turns out that we did watch them all over the course of a few days.
The first one wasn't half bad. It was an older movie called Flatliners about some medical students. Since they had been around death quite a bit, they became very curious about what happens after this life - They started interviewing people who had claimed near death experiences. The results were so diverse that they decided they would have to experience it for themselves. They take turns 'flatlining' each other under medical supervision, and then bringing each other back to life. It wasn't ever actually scary, only a little disturbing, and had a good ending with a great moral.
The second was almost more of an action film. The title is Panic Room. A couple is going through a divorce so the Mom and daughter are moving into a new apartment. Three criminals had scoped out this particular apartment for a break in because no one was supposed to be moving in for another week or so. The plot is that the Mother and daughter make it to what is called a 'Panic Room' - a hidden room in this apartment made of concrete and steel where once the door is shut, no one can get in. The criminals want what is in that room. There were a few white-knuckle moments, but it made for a good story.
The third ... oh the third. Why did we even rent THIS movie? And why did we have friends over when it was time to watch THIS movie? It is called Hide and Seek. It was suggested to us by the girl at the video store. We had explained to her that we just wanted suspense and not horror. She thought of this one right away and told us that even though there were some weird parts, it would explain all the mystery at the end and everything makes sense. We thought that should be perfect. I was a little apprehensive when she got it out of the Halloween section, but it had good actors/actresses in it so we ended up with it for a back up plan.... MISTAKE ALERT! Ok, to those of you who regularly watch the paranormal or spine-tingly movies this probably was not anywhere near that kind of scary (so perhaps I can forgive the girl at the video store.) Sure it explains the mystery, but the explanation is FAR from comforting! I would give you a general plot, but I don't think I want to refresh it in my mind.
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WATCH ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY 'SUSPENSEFUL'ON HALLOWEEN:
I slept with this gun, and I woke up every hour thinking I was about to die.
Serves me right. I had dreams that my 3 yr old niece was coming after me- and it wasn't funny! Should have stopped after the two good movies while I was ahead of the game. Jake thought it was kind of hilarious that I have such a hard time separating a movie from reality, but then softened up when I continued to freak out. He is nice to me some days. :) Just sayin... don't watch it! Or, I guess you could watch it and laugh at me for taking it so hard. I have one friend who was there with us who agrees with me on the matter. However both of our husbands are the comical type and torture us with reminders. So if you ever happen to see it, I guess you can pick a side --- But don't say I didn't warn you!

Alright, I must say that this entry did really entertain me. As you already know, I'm one of the people that would tease you about sleeping with a shotgun, while at the same time being nervous about staying in the same house as you with a shotgun in that state of mind. :)
AHHHH! I HATE scary movies!!! I will never watch it. Phew. Blaine thinks its just hilarious to watch suspenseful movies with me. I swear my heart was just not meant to take it! LOL!
Okay... no "Hide and Seek". Good to know, good to know.
You should go read the post on Kelianne's blog about the haunted house! I feel for her!
