7th Day of Christmas

[7 useful gadgets - Batteries, Screwdriver, Extension Cord, Gloves, Flashlight, Steering Wheel Cover, Duct tape.]

‘Twas the night before Christmas and I did relent
I couldn’t believe how much money I’d spent!
For trains and dolls, for trinkets and toys
Some for the girls and some for the boys
I looked round again to be sure things were right
With the help of my SCREWDRIVER all the screws were in tight
I set up the track for the train I bought Ted
The train went round twice then the BATTERY went dead
If we had just bought what we could afford
It probably would have run with an EXTENSION CORD
But too late for that, the task was looming
Only one thing could get that train ready and zooming
I put on my GLOVES and went over to Zayre
You guessed in my friend, no batteries there!
As I left the store a thought came to me
I had one in the remote of the color TV
Well, I made the switch and put the remote on the chair
I was ready for Christmas with hours to spare
Then out came my wife holding up the remote
She said “TV is broke” so I put on my coat
This time I took my FLASHLIGHT and cap
I gripped the STEERING WHEEL about ready to snap
I made my way to K-mart where I stood in that line
Looking at DUCT TAPE ‘til a quarter past nine

As I came to the checkout my heart leaped with glee
There was one more battery just waiting for me
From somewhere behind I felt someone’s grip
A giant man grabbed it and gave me the slip
Well, it was then I remembered an ad I had seen
Buy a Big Mac and you’ll get your batteries free
So… I bought me a burger I did not want
They were out of batteries so on with the hunt!
Finally I found one at a Servi-Star
I paid for the prize and returned to my car
When I entered my home and began to unpack
My wife said “What’s this battery for - I found in a sack?”
I was out there with the crowds, the pushing and the greed
To buy a battery I didn’t even need!

At last I relaxed in my easy chair
When the Still Small Voice came and found me there
“You’re ready for Christmas with the tinsel and a tree
You’ve got it all together, but what about me?”
I realized then what I had done
I got caught up in the madness and neglected the Son.
The One who should have been my center of thought
Was waiting in the background behind the things I bought
I folded my arms and got down on my knees
And said a little prayer “could you forgive me please”
The best gifts of all - from God we receive
All He asks is that we obey and believe
