SPACE DERBY

So you have all heard of the Pinewood Derby, right? The major scouting event where the boys (and their dads) create amazing little wooden cars and then race them on a track?

Well, this month our ward decided to let the boys take part in what is called a Space Derby to give our scouts a little variety. They have all done the Pinewood Derby quite a few times, and they have even done the Raingutter Regata (which is done with little boats) - but none of them had ever experienced this variation.

Instead of a race track, these rockets fly on suspended wires. Each one has a little clip on the top which attaches to the line. They wind the rubberband propeller and zoom!

It turns out that a lot of the rockets didn't work very well, the pieces were breakable, and the races weren't exactly competitive. But I will say that the boys still loved it, and they came up with a lot of cool designs. And after all, people just go for the refreshments anyway....

I MADE ROCKET CUPCAKES! And I made a lot of them. It took me all day, so they weren't quite up to perfectionist standard. But they were a hit and very yummy if I do say so myself!
